This customer just completed a swimming pool and enclosure in their backyard in Vero Beach, Florida. After months of being ravaged by all different sorts of heavy equipment, the lawn around the outside of the new pool deck was very torn up. Some new landscaping was definitely in order.
The 30’x40′ pool deck and enclosure left enough room for a cement Sport Court along with plenty of lawn for outside games. The owners decided to equip the yard with a 15’x13′ cement pad. This cement “sports court” will have a multitude of potential uses. It is sized large enough to provide a floor for a 12’X14″ gazebo someday. In the meantime, it will offer a multitude of possible uses, a fire pit, a golf tee pad, and net, or even a portable basketball hoop.
These owners may just choose to use it as a big canvas for sidewalk chalk for the time being. It made sense to put it in now rather than to spend money on sod to patch up the lawn only to tear it out later.
Here is a gallery of photos of the Garrett Property Management team during work in progress. The expert Garrett crew began by locating the corners in the desired location and framing the simple rectangular shape. Care was taken to ensure the pad would be level on the gently sloping lot.
Maintaining the level pad in this case would require additional dirt to be brought in and leveled within the form. The fill dirt was delivered, distributed properly, and compacted.
The next step was mixing about 100 bags of cement and moving the cement into the form a wheelbarrow at a time. Care was taken to make sure no bubbles were allowed to remain to weaken the cement slab.
Once the cement was in place in all areas of the form, Omar used his expertise to level the entire pad with a large trowel on a pole that would reach all the way from side to side.
This smoothing process was repeated several times at intervals as the cement hardened over time. At a certain point, Omar directed his team to run a special trowel around the edges and corners to round them off.
Last but not least Omar used a wide brush to give the surface a little texture for traction. If you ever decide to install a sports court in your backyard, you can’t do better than the team of experts at Garrett Property Management
